Link your component list to the P&ID, both ways

Combine an Excel component list and a searchable P&ID drawing set into one PDF. P&ID Linker finds each tag on the drawing, links the list row to it and links the drawing tag back to its row, so reviewers can click between list and drawing.

  • No account required
  • Files processed locally
  • Searchable PDF + XLSX, XLSM, XLS, CSV or TSV

What you can do with P&ID Linker

Jump from list to drawing and back

A tag in the list opens the drawing page where it appears, zoomed to the tag. A tag on the drawing returns to its row. Tags on several sheets link to every page.

Find tags as they are drawn

Dots, hyphens, slashes and spaces count as one separator, two-line tags in instrument bubbles are found, and tags split over several columns can be combined.

Review what did not link

Filter the report by linked, not found, duplicate, ambiguous and drawing-only tags, and export it as CSV. A missing link is a review item, not automatically an error.

How it works

  1. Open the list and the drawing

Choose the component list and a P&ID exported from CAD with real text. The built-in sample links a fictional cooling water list to a two-sheet drawing.

  2. Point out the header and the tag

The linker suggests the header row and tag column. Click a row number or a cell to change them, or build the tag from several columns.

  3. Build and click through

The list becomes the first pages of the PDF, followed by the drawing. Check the tags that were not found, then download the PDF or view it in the browser.

Your output: Linked PDF, interactive HTML viewer and tag report. Your original files stay unchanged.

Before you start

Which files can I use?

A component list in XLSX, XLSM, XLS, CSV or TSV format up to 30 MB, with up to 100,000 rows and 256 columns, and a searchable P&ID PDF up to 150 MB. One worksheet is used at a time. The tool reads saved, displayed cell values; it does not calculate formulas or run macros.

Does it work with scanned drawings?

Tags must be readable as PDF text. Scanned drawings without a text layer cannot be searched; export the P&ID from CAD as a PDF with real text. Password-protected and digitally signed PDFs are refused, because adding pages and links would invalidate them.

How are tags matched on the drawing?

Matches are whole words, so PV 201 never matches PV 2010. Letter case is ignored, and dots, hyphens, slashes and spaces count as the same separator. If the drawing leaves out part of the tag, such as the area code, you can match on selected tag parts; tags that then look the same are reported as ambiguous and are not linked.

Which PDF readers support the links?

The links work in Acrobat, browser PDF viewers and most desktop readers. Use your reader’s Back command to return to the drawing. You can also download one interactive HTML file with the viewer and the PDF inside, which opens in Chrome, Edge or Firefox without this website.

Are my files uploaded or saved?

Selected files are processed in browser memory and are not uploaded by the tool or saved to WordPress. Only Save as stores a named configuration on this device for this site. The linked PDF contains your list and drawing, so share it intentionally. The website still loads application files normally.
