Supported files, privacy, and common questions
What can I open?
Two report revisions in XLSX, XLSM, XLS, CSV or TSV format. You can also paste either table from Excel, including its header row. Compare one worksheet from each report at a time; choose the corresponding sheets and check the shared header-row setting.
The XLSX result preserves cell text. In CSV downloads, values beginning with formula-like characters receive a leading apostrophe so spreadsheet readers treat them as text.
The tool compares saved, displayed cell values. It does not calculate formulas, execute macros or refresh external data. Recalculate and save both workbooks first.
What are the limits?
30 MB per report; up to 100,000 data rows and 256 columns per worksheet. Each pasted table is limited to roughly 5 million characters. Available browser memory also affects capacity.
The on-screen table holds up to 2,000 entries, with skipped rows first. Downloads list up to 200,000 differences, and the workbook lists up to 5,000 skipped rows. Totals still count all differences and skipped rows. A marked copy is omitted above 400,000 source cells or when a difference or skipped-row list is incomplete. Export limits and skipped rows are also documented in the workbook’s Review notes sheet.
Should I match by keys or by position?
Match rows by keys uses a unique tag or a combination of columns, so rows and columns can move between revisions. Map renamed key columns to their new names. Compare cells by position compares the same cell addresses; inserted rows or columns can make many later cells appear changed.
Does anything leave my computer?
This tool reads selected reports into browser memory. It has no file upload endpoint, external document processing or telemetry. The website still serves the application files normally. Downloaded workbooks and CSVs contain report data, so share them intentionally.
Are my files or settings saved?
Files and report rows are not saved to WordPress or browser storage. Only Save as stores a named configuration with the compare mode, header row, key mapping, delimiter and ignored columns on this device for this site.
Clear session clears the loaded reports and results from the tool. To remove saved settings, select the configuration under Save or restore settings and choose Delete. Downloaded files stay wherever you saved them.
Why were rows skipped, or values marked as changed?
In key mode, rows with blank or repeated keys are skipped; the first row with a repeated key is kept. Check the Skipped filter and the workbook’s Skipped rows sheet. Fill missing keys or add another key column to identify each row. Duplicate column headers must be renamed. Columns without headers are not compared in key mode; name them or compare by position.
Different displayed number or date formats can count as value changes. Check the worksheet, header row and formatting if too much looks changed. This tool compares cell values, not workbook styling or formula logic.
A difference is a review item, not automatically an error. Check skipped rows and any output-limit notices before relying on the comparison.
